Educational levels

We work across all three levels in a coordinated and cohesive manner with the aim of developing the competencies outlined in our graduate profile.

Early years

In Early Childhood Education, we lay the foundation for lifelong learning and emphasize the unique capabilities of each student, fostering their sense of security, emotional development, and social skills.

We work to motivate boys and girls to think independently and be creative through project-based learning and play. These activities stem from their curiosities and interests, and with the guidance of our teachers, we align the 6-week projects with the academic standards of the curriculum. Additionally, we encourage them to live and discover new experiences in community, as interacting with fellow classmates fosters new knowledge and develops new skills.

We offer students meaningful activities where we pay special attention to their well-being and different emotional needs, respecting their learning rhythms. An area of continuous observation and listening is our ‘sectors’, where teachers simultaneously work in small groups with students, engaging in artistic activities, fine motor skills exercises, and academic areas following our playful proposal.

Our students are our reason for being, which is why our objective is for them to feel stimulated and challenged to learn and develop, while also acquiring fundamental basic knowledge and skills.

In this regard, we have included two cutting-edge Finnish programs, such as Kide Science (STEAM), and See the Good (socio-emotional skills). Finally, we use a phonetics program based on the use of images, movements, and sounds to learn English during the Early Childhood Education stage.

Primary

Primary lays the fundamental groundwork for academic, social, and emotional development. We work under a comprehensive educational approach. One of the cornerstones of primary education in our school is project-based learning. This methodology fosters active student participation in the construction of their own knowledge through research, experimentation, and problem-solving. Through projects, students develop skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. This approach not only strengthens social skills but also prepares children to face challenges and achieve goals collectively.

Collaborative work is another one of our pillars. By working in collaborative groups, students have the opportunity to discuss ideas, pose questions, and come up with possible solutions together. The motivation is constant as our students enjoy sharing their ideas and contributing to the success of the group. They learn that they are part of a school community where each individual contributes to the well-being of the group. This promotes a sense of belonging and solidarity, helping children develop empathy, respect, and collaboration.

In addition to working on the social aspect, we also focus on the emotional development of students. It is important for us that children identify and regulate their emotions, fostering emotional intelligence skills that are essential for their personal well-being and their ability to relate to others in a healthy way. Therefore, from the early grades of primary school, our students have classes in Mindfulness, yoga, and spiritual history, acquiring different strategies for self-awareness and emotional regulation.

In the academic part, we aim to reach and surpass established standards, preparing students to compete globally. Our students receive preparation for internationally recognized certifications, such as the Cambridge exams (Starters, Movers, and Flyers), which assess English language skills. Finally, in primary school, our students develop research and technology skills. The use of technological resources is encouraged, and students are taught to search, evaluate, and use information critically and responsibly. This prepares children to face the challenges of the modern world, where access to information and the ability to manage it are essential skills.

Secondary

At Nordic International School, Secondary Education focuses on a comprehensive approach that prepares students for a constantly changing world. Building on disciplinary courses as a foundation, we develop six interdisciplinary projects throughout the year, promoting skills such as teamwork and critical thinking. We organize study trips linked to the projects, providing meaningful experiences with social impact.

Our students prepare for IGCSE exams, including Enterprise and Global Perspectives, providing them with international academic standards. Additionally, they obtain English certifications such as PET and FCE/CAE, reaching at least a B2 level by the end of their school stage. In terms of vocational aspects, we focus on helping students find their purpose in life and become role models, accompanying them closely throughout their school life.

During school hours, our students participate in a variety of trades or crafts such as Carpentry, Sculpture, Cooking, Animal Care, Textiles, and Music Composition. These activities foster our students’ autonomy, as they have the freedom to choose what to participate in and can rotate between them throughout the year. This flexibility not only provides them with the opportunity to explore their interests but also helps them develop lifelong skills. These programs are designed to complement their academic education and prepare them to face real-world challenges.

We promote emotional well-being through mindfulness and yoga practices, as well as fostering critical and reflective thinking in courses such as Spiritual History and Philosophy, through which we provide our students with tools to manage stress and cultivate resilience.

Our extracurricular activities encompass a wide variety of options, from Sustainability clubs, Debate, Chess, Choir, and Musical Ensemble to sports such as soccer, hockey, volleyball, and basketball. At Nordic International School, we are committed to providing a quality education that prepares our students for the challenges of the modern world and inspires them to be leaders of tomorrow. We are dedicated to accompanying each student on their educational journey, providing them with the support and tools necessary to reach their full potential.
